The two highest principles or existence or "tattwas"
are Shiva and Shakti  - the divine pair of opposites
that create the unity of yoga.  In this retreat, we
will focus on how to apply the principles of Shiva &
Shakti in our Anusara practice in order to truly open
our hearts and understand the hearts of ALL.  Lee Shuff will lead us into Quiet Yoga so
that our bodies and minds can more easily integrate
the bliss that comes with practice.

Perfect for beginners and more advanced practitioners
of yoga, this retreat will allow you to further refine
your understanding of Anusara's Universal Principles
of Alignment in a safe and love-filled environment
such as Ananda Ashram.

About Anusara Yoga:

Founded by John Friend, Anusara yoga is a unique approach to hatha yoga. It has gained great popularity due to its uplifting philosophy and its celebration of the heart. It is a practice that looks for the good in all people and all things. Combined with precise therapeutic biomechanic principles of alignment, Anusara has captured the hearts of many yoga practitioners. To find out more about John Friend and Anusara yoga go to http://www.anusarayoga.com/.

About Lee Shuff's Quiet Yoga:
Quiet Yoga guided meditation is a practice which
concentrates on merging your body with the Universal prana -- where your body "disappears" and only your most intense version of Self can be "released".   In that state, healing prana is flowing everywhere, through you, through your meridians/nadis, all your chakras and your spine and you can become one withsomething greater than yourself.   This is a subtle but powerful practice, promoting self healing and leaving the practitioner with a feeling of deep inner peace.

About Yogafly:

Kristina loves yoga. Yoga has given her the ability to fly while staying grounded on the earth. Since 1997, Kristina has been studying and practicing yoga with amazing teachers in New York City and Texas. Her primary influence is Anusara Yoga which was graciously introduced to her by Amy Ippoliti.  Kristina's yoga teaching style is filled with creativity, music, humor and depth. She encourages students to open to their individuality and strength while remaining, always, in play. She currently teaches in New York City.

About Lee Shuff:

Lee Shuff has been practicing yoga for over 20 years has been teaching hatha yoga at the Integral Yoga Institute in New York City for the past 2 years. She is a student of Nada Yoga, Buddhist Meditation and the healing arts. Lee is also a Reiki Master and an advanced Vortex Healing practitioner.

About Rikard Skogberg: www.rikardyoga.com

I have been teaching yoga for the last 4years and practicing yoga for 6 years. I was born in Sweden and am both Swedish and Portuguese. I studied dance and musical theater before beginning my career in yoga.

I bring to my practice a curious soul in search of the secrets of life. I believe in the integration and acceptance of the whole being, and that we should appreciate our unique individuality and celebrate life and the gifts that we have to offer.

I started my practice of Ashtanga yoga and fell in love with the dynamic and purifying aspects of the practice. I continued to look for a practice that would gently take me into a deeper level of self-knowledge. I did my first teacher training at Integral Yoga. After six months of teaching I found Anusara yoga. I realized that I found exactly what I had been looking for in this practice.

Alongside my yoga practice I have been studying different modalities of creative art therapies including drama, art and dance therapies in addition to psychology. Through anusara yoga I have focused on therapeutics as well as a more dynamic and flowing practice. As well as working with yoga, I am a certified Reiki Level 2. I also work privately with yoga sessions.

I wish to extend my gratitude to my teachers John Friend, Ellen Saltonstall, Bindu Wiles.

-Ramana Maharshi

Yogafly and friends Kirtan at Quantum Yoga

Baltimore, Maryland this Saturday, February 3rd

http://www.sueborchardt.com/index.php/2007/01/29/kirtan-at-quantum-saturday-feb-3-at-8-pm/

Drink a Fresh Cup of Joy Everyday from Gurumayi

From Gurumayi's book - The Yoga of Discipline

"Drink a fresh cup of joy everyday and become inspired with new perception.

You have to clear out the old in order to bring in the new.

As long as the mind is not channeled in a positive direction, it compulsively paints one dreadful picture after another - of your past, of your future, your character and the world you live in.

It drags you down in the dust.  It takes any situation or relationship and turns it into the worst hell possible.

Jnaneshwar Maharaj speaks highly of students on the path of yoga - who have practiced Hatha yoga and breathing techniques and have also learned withdrawal of the senses, concentration and meditation.

He says:

'Then they will reach the end of the path.  All desire for further progress will be satisfied and those who seek the goal will attain it in the joy of the Self."

"The yogi should constantly discipline himself,

remaining in solitude, alone

with mind and body well restrained

having no desires, and without avarice. [6.10]"

note from Kristina -

I love the discipline of being alone with one's own heart - no matter where one is - with thousands and thousands of people or in one's own silent space.  This is a magical world filled with incredible rapture.

May we all reside in this abode of Nadam as we participate in everyday life.

From Elizabeth Gilbert, Two Poems from an Ashram in India

From Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

All this talk of nectar and bliss

is starting to piss me off

I don't know about you, my friend,

but my path to God ain't no sweet waft of incense.

It's a cat set loose in a pigeon pen

and I'm the cat - but also them who yell like hell when they get pinned.

My path to God is a worker's uprising

won't be peace till they unionize

Their picket is so fearsome

the National Guard wont' go near them.

My path was beaten unconscious before me,

by a small brown man I never got to see,

who chased God through India,

shin-deep in mud, barefoot and famined, malarial blood,

sleeping in doorways, under bridges - a hobo.

(which is short for "homeward bound," you know)

And he now chases me, saying, "Got it yet, Liz?"

What Homeward means?  What BOUND really is?

Second

However,

If they'd let me wear pants made out of the fresh-mown grass from this place,

I'd do it.

If they'd let me make out

with every single Eucalyptus tree in Ganesh's Grove,

I swear, I'd do it.

I've sweated out dew these days,

worked out the dregs,

rubbed my chin on tree bark,

mistaking it for my master's leg.

I can't get far enough in.

If they'd let me eat the soil of this place

sewed on a bed of bird's nests

I'd finish only half my plate,

Then sleep all night on the rest.

Ned's (Jambavan) Soho Kirtan on January 14th, Details here:

From Ned's e-mail:

"Greetings all and Happy New Year -

The holidays are over - We all need renewal after the excitement, intensity and stress of the holiday season - so it's time for Kirtan in Soho again at Ned and Lynn's loft!!

Save the date!!! Sunday, January 14.

Our last kirtan at the loft in December was so uplifting and inspiring and full of bhakti that we decided to do it again in January. We will celebrate the deities and join voices and instruments to rejoice in the gradual return of the light after the deep dark of winter.

We will again have delicious pot luck - we'll provide our two awesome soups (vegetarian and chicken) and look forward to another cornucopia of food from you all - One request - perhaps fewer desserts and more vegetable, rice and salad dishes.  But anything is welcome.

More details to come, but we'll start a little earlier at 3:30 and break for dinner at 6 and then chant again from 7 to 9 or later (last time we went until 11).

And once again we will offer a few chants and then pass the harmonium to others who want to lead. Last time we had an amazing group of leaders and we look forward to sharing the inspiration with those who are willing to venture forward and take the lead. It's all about call and response and it's rich whether you do the calling or the responding. Ultimately it's about deepening the heart and raising the spirit through chants that range from the deeply devotional to the wildly ecstatic!! We can't wait!!

Please RSVP Ned by e-mailing at NedLeavitt@aol.com so we know how many to expect and let us know what you can bring for the food feast.

Love and Happy New Year,

Ned (Jambavan) and Lynn (Soulbanana)"

Some Wisdom on Money

Most of the below is from Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T.  Kiyosaki.

1) Spend time and money on objects and experiences that make more
money.
i.e. Only spend if you know that what you spend will generate at
least a 70% profit or more:
so don't spend on trendy clothes or things you have to keep replacing
or anything that does not generate more money.

If you love doing something that does not generate profits, consider
finding a way to make 70% or more profit doing what you love (and we're only talking about the  ethical, responsible generously good etc., of course)

2) Have savings even if it means living sparingly. Have enough  savings to invest with.  Have enough so when you invest and are learning to, you can afford to  lose a little to learn plenty
more.

3) Stay away from keeping-up-with-the-joneses types who will try to  pressure or stress you out that you are not wildly spending away like they so gleefully seem to.

4) Spend a portion of your week learning more about money. Read Money magazine, sites like
Motley Fool, http://www.ricedelman.com/planning/basics/ etc.

Personal Finance Literacy site for kids:
http://www.jumpstart.org/

5) Learn what others have done that affords savings, investments,  early retirement etc.

6) Be proactive about making money that generates more.

7) Every week, evaluate your goals and process in making money that  generates more money.

HAPPIEST MOST PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR YET FOR YOU!!!
