Ahambhava

From The Splendor of Recognition by Swami Shantananda

page 146

"The practice of Ahambhava is connected with the exercise we introduced with Sutra 5, when we dissolved all mental fluctuations (vikalpas) in the serene space of the Witness.  This is exactly what I was doing during the meditation in the Bhagawan Nityananda Temple that I described earlier.   The way it works in practice is this:  Every time a thought or fantasy or desire comes up - I want this, I hate that, he did this, she did that - allow the vikalpa to merge into your awareness, melt into the mind-stuff from which it came.  This is the merging of the object with the subject.  Continue to offer everything that arises, and as these mental constructs dissolve, watch the feeling of pure "I AM" spontaneously reveal itself.  Rest your attention steadily on the perfect "I AM."  Relish the way the inherent freedom of  "I AM" liberates you from your slavery to mental turmoil.  This is

the resting place."

Yoga Retreat - June 16-18, 2006

Spring into Summer Yoga Retreat at Ananda Ashram
Yoga Camp into Refreshing Bliss
A gorgeous time to be at Ananda Ashram - only 1 hour outside of NYC in Monroe, New York. The weekend of June 16-18 is the week before Summer Solstice. This transitional time between Spring and Summer is the perfect time for you to invite changes that align you more clearly to your true life intentions.

During this 3 day adventure, we will practice Anusara- style alignment for your Hatha yoga asanas and integrate appropriate action and attitude to bring your body into balance. We will deepen our practice of meditation on the incredible vibration of OM - the sound of the Anahata Nadam that reverberates throughout Ananda Ashram. Ananda Ashram has served as a "beacon light" for the New York yoga community for over 41 years and will be celebrating its 42nd Anniversary in July 2006. Its wonderful staff creates delicious & nutritious vegetarian and vegan food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I will be leading the retreat and my lovely fellow yogini, Heather Osterman, will teacher assist. All levels of yoga practitioners are welcome, beginners, intermediate, advanced and the enlightened ones, come on up!

Your Destiny: The Gift that Renews

From Rob Brezsny:

Week of May 4, 2006:
Let's talk about the gift that it is your destiny to offer the world. Are you still struggling to figure out what it is? Here's what storyteller Michael Meade advises: You'll know it's the gift you were born to give if your energy is renewed, not exhausted, by giving it. It so happens that the coming weeks will be a perfect time to make dramatic progress in exploring this crucial truth, Leo.

Yoga & Tantra with Swami Janakananda Saraswati

Yoga, Tantra, and Meditation Retreat at Ananda Ashram
With Swami Janakananda Saraswati

May 12-14, 2006; with an optional day on Monday May 15
Fri 7:00PM - Sun 4:00PM; Mon 10:00AM-9:00PM

Tuition Fri-Sun $250; Mon only $85

Focus will be on Tantric* Meditation and Deep Relaxation, including Classical Yoga and Pranayama

This retreat with the founder of the Scandinavian Yoga and Meditation School is a rare opportunity to be inspired by the teachings of the authentic Tantric tradition. They are meant to help one rest in one's original state, the real Self. Swami Janakananda will teach the first steps of two meditations: "The Source of Energy" (from Kriya Yoga) and "Inner Silence," as well as guide the deep relaxation or Yoga Nidra. He will also give lectures. Swamiji will be assisted by Ma Sita Savitri, who will teach Yoga Asana and Pranayama and will lead Kirtan and chanting for the retreat. Participation in all weekend sessions is required due to the sequential nature of the teaching.  *Tantric in the original, general, esoteric sense; no sexual practices.

Swami Janakananda Saraswati is a master of Yoga, Tantra, Pranayama and Meditation in the lineage of Paramahansa Satyananda. He founded the Scandinavian Yoga and Meditation School in 1970 and is a highly respected teacher not only in Scandinavia, but also in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South America. He is the author of the book Yoga, Tantra and Meditation in Daily Life and the deep relaxation CD "Experience Yoga Nidra," which he created together with master sitarist Roop Verma. Swamiji's disciple and assistant is Ma Sita Savitri, who has been a teacher at the Scandinavian Yoga and Meditation School since 1984.
